The ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarships at NTU Singapore

The ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarships are offered by the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) for students from the Association of South East Asian Nations, or ASEAN (except Singapore). ASEAN comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The scholarship is tenable for an undergraduate degree programme on a full-time basis at NTU.


Terms and Conditions

The scholarship covers the entire duration of the undergraduate studies on condition that scholars maintain a minimum CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 3.5 over 5. The academic performance is monitored on a semester basis.

If the scholar decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, the university reserves the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis.

The scholarship covers the following:

Tuition fee directly payable by students (after Tuition Grant)
Living allowance of $4,300 per annum
There will be no bond apart from the 3-year bond applicable to all foreign students under the Tuition Grant Scheme.

A recipient of the scholarship may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, grant or award without the prior approval of NTU.

False information or willful suppression of material facts will render your application disqualified, or if the Scholarship is awarded to you, the award will be invalid and you will be required to pay back the amounts received.

Eligible Programmes

The scholarship offered covers the duration of all NTU full-time undergraduate programmes except for Biomedical Sciences & Chinese Medicine and NTU-Georgia Tech Integrated Programmes which covers only for the first three years in NTU.



Eligibility Criteria

All nationals (citizens and permanent residents) of a member country of ASEAN (except Singapore) are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

Candidates offering international qualifications should have outstanding academic results and extra-curricular activities.

Category D applicants (International)

Application for ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship for Category D applicants is open.

As the scholarship is offered to students admitted to NTU, applicants have to first submit the on-line application for admission to NTU. After successful submission of the on-line application form, please apply for the scholarship here by keying in the application number assigned to you. This on-line ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship application form is only applicable to international applicants with international qualifications.

Applicants will need to submit a recent passport-size photo (digital image) with the following specifications at the end of the application form;

GIF format ('gif' extension)
File size around 60 Kbytes
400(Width) by 514 (Height) in pixels
Interview

Only shortlisted applicants would be informed of the scholarship interview schedule.

Research Fellow Positions on Nanoelectronics and Micro/Nano Fluid Dynamics, Singapor


Two Research Fellow positions (postdoctoral position) are available in
the Division of Physics and Applied Physics, School of Physical and
Mathematical Sciences at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

The positions are in the interdisciplinary field of Nanoelectronics
and Micro/Nano Fluid Mechanics and are available for immediate
appointment.

Position 1:
We are looking preferably for a researcher holding a PhD in
Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Nanoelectronics. Her/His task
will be the development of thin-film resistance sensors using
lithographic techniques and the designing of fast constant current
feedback electronic circuitries. The Research Fellow will develop this
novel device for probing the fluid mechanics present in ultrasonic
cleaning. This position is initially available for 12 month and
renewal will be based mutual agreements. Good communication skills in
English, experiences in the clean-room/nanofabrication, and the design
of analog circuitry are required. Additional knowledge in the fields
of acoustics, fluid-mechanics, or physics is a plus. If interested,

Position 2:
The second position should be filled with a Researcher holding a PhD
in Physics, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. The candidate should
have experience in experimental research in fluid mechanics and
ideally in acoustics, too. In this 36 month research project she/he
will study the wall shear stress on a microscopic level with the help
of novel sensor developed in-house. For the calibration of the sensor
some experience in operating pulsed lasers and high-speed photography
equipment is desired. Although, the research project is focused on the
experimental side, candidates with a background in numerical
simulations (boundary element method or finite-element method) are
favorably considered. Good communication skill in English and a
curious character are necessary to successfully complete this
challenging interdisciplinary research project. If interested, please

Master in Public Policy (MPP) Programme - National University of Singapore

Master in Public Policy (MPP) students benefit from the School’s growing network of exchange arrangements of up to 1 year with public policy schools worldwide. To graduate with the Master in Public Policy (MPP), you must obtain a CAP of at least 3.0 for 72 graduate-level MCs, including the MCs for the 7 core modules and the Policy Analysis Exercise.

Master in Public Policy (MPP) Programme Requirements:
The minimum candidature period for the MPP is 18 months and the maximum is 3 years. Within that time, you must earn at least 72 graduate-level modular credits (MCs) by completing at least 16 modules, comprising 7 core modules (28 MCs) and 9 electives (36 MCs), plus a Policy Analysis Exercise (8 MCs). Most MPP students read 4 modules per semester and complete the requirements in 4 semesters spanning 2 years. You may apply to read electives (up to 12 MCs) taught in other programmes within NUS. You may read a maximum of 5 modules per semester.


The application deadline for applicants applying for scholarships or grants is 31 January 2008. For applicants not seeking financial assistance, the application deadline is 31 May 2008.

Thunderbird has dedicated a full tuition scholarship for a successful Indonesian applicant for the Fall 2008 intake. Application deadline: April 28, 2008

Details:
. Covers tuition fees for 60 credit hour program (approx. value USD 75,000)
. Does not include living expenses, course materials, health insurance or Winterim/Summerim expenses (Candidate would have to prove financial ability to pay those “uncovered” costs before we could request the I-20 form needed to obtain the student visa)
Admission Requirements:

The Singapore Scholarship was announced by then Prime Minister of Singapore Mr. Goh Chok Tong at the 6th ASEAN Summit in December 1998. The objective of the Singapore Scholarship at that time was to help alleviate the problem of educating young people in the ASEAN countries due to the regional economic crisis.
The Singapore Government awards the scholarship to Government-endorsed student from the other member countries of ASEAN. Each Scholarship is for a full-time undergraduate degree course at the Nanyang Technological University, the National University of Singapore and the Singapore Management University. All disciplines except for Medicine and Dentistry are open to Scholar. The duration of each Scholarship is for three or four years, depending on the discipline.

The award is based on academic merit and places will be allocated by open competition. If necessary, a one-year bridging or foundation programmed, in addition to the undergraduate studies, will be provided.

To be eligible, a candidate must:

Candidates must meet the entry requirements for Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore and Singapore Management University. A recipient of the Scholarship may not concurrently hold any scholarship, Fellowship, Grant or award without prior approval of the Singapore Government. The scholars are also expected to return to their countries upon graduation to contribute to the development of their countries.

Short listed nominees will take the entrance examinations set by the Singapore universities. Nominees are further short listed based on their entrance examination result and will then have to undergo and interview conducted by interviewers from the Singapore Universities. The entrance examinations and interviews will be conducted from February to April 2008 in Jakarta.

Application must be endorsed and submitted by the Indonesian Department of National Education (Bureau of Planning and Foreign Cooperation) at Building C, 6th Floor, JL. Jend. Sudirman, Senayan, Jakarta Pusat. Candidates are required to produce the following:-

Certificate, endorsement by the former Scholl, for graduated applicants;
Recommendation from the School Principal, for applicants who are still in grade 3 at SMU.
Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. The deadline for complete application forms to be submitted is 18 December 2007. The decision of the Singapore Government on the selection of Singapore Scholars is final.

ASEAN Research Scholars 2008

The Asia Research Institute of NUS invites applications from ASEAN citizens enrolled for a fulltime advanced degree at a university in an ASEAN country (except Singapore) for consideration as ASEAN Research Scholars.
The aim of the fellowship is to enable scholars to make full use of the wide range of resources held in the libraries of NUS and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies.

ASEAN Research Scholars 2008 will be expected to commence on 1 May 2008, and to make a presentation on their work at the Singapore Graduate Forum on Southeast Asian Studies at the end of July 2008.

ASEAN Research Scholars 2008 are offered to current graduate students working in the Humanities and Social Sciences on Southeast Asian topics, and will allow the recipients to be based at NUS for an ‘in residence fellowship’ for a period of three months.

The 2-page outline of the research proposal must include the following details:
• Whether the data collection or fieldwork stage of the research has already been completed;
• how the fellowship will contribute to the research;
• the types of sources to be consulted in Singapore;
• proposed work plan during the fellowship.

Successful candidates can expect the following benefits:
• A monthly allowance of SGD$1,750 (inclusive of housing allowance).
• A one time round trip travel subsidy by the most economical and direct route on a reimbursement basis upon being accepted for the fellowship.
• Access to library and computer resources on campus.



Applicants are invited to e-mail/facsimile/mail their curriculum vitae, a 2-page outline of their research proposal in English (this may be accompanied by a longer statement in a Southeast Asian language) to the address below by 15 November 2007. Arrangements should also be made by which at least two letters of reference, one of which is from your principal supervisor, are sent confidentially to the same address by the same deadline.
