Scholarship at University of Auckland, Beasiswa ADB - JSP Japan Scholarship Program

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) - Japan Scholarship Programme (JSP) was established in April 1988 with funding from the Government of Japan. It is intended to provide an opportunity to fully qualified citizens of ADB developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related areas to attend academic institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. ADB-JSP enrolls about 300 students annually in 20 academic institutions located in 10 countries within the region.

University of Auckland is one of institutions participating in this ADB-JSP scholarship program .



SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION
The ADB-JSP provides full scholarships for one to two years.

full tuition fees
a monthly subsistence and housing allowance
an allowance for books and instructional materials
medical insurance
travel expenses
The scholarship is for one year with an extension to the second year of study, as appropriate, which shall be conditional on the scholar maintaining a satisfactory level of performance as determined by the institute. The maximum duration of scholarship award is two years for masters and doctorate programs.

Master of Science (Environmental Science)
Master/Doctorate in Engineering

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

A national of an ADB borrowing member country (applicants from countries that are no longer borrowing from ADB are not eligible for the ADB-JSP Scholarship).
Gained admission to an approved post graduate course in any of the participating academic institutions. (University of Auckland )
A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with superior academic record.
At least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience
Proficiency in oral and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies.
Not more than 35 years old at the time of application.
In good health.
Should agree to return to his/her home county after completion of studies under the Program.
Staff of participating academic institutions are not eligible for the Scholarship.
Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of ADB, consultants, and relatives of the aforementioned are not eligible for the Scholarship.
Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of the other international organizations are not eligible for the Scholarship.
Applicants living or working in a country other than his/her home country are not eligible for the Scholarship.
Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.

Doctoral Research Scholarships at New Zealand, Beasiswa S3 Selandia baru

New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS) are open to all international students who meet the eligibility criteria.

NZIDRS scholarships include:

full tuition fees for three years of full-time doctoral study
NZ$20,500 per annum living allowance (NZ$1708.33 per month).
up to NZ$600 annual health insurance allowance
NZ$2000 (across 3 year tenure) travel allowance. This is intended to be used for conference attendance and field research
NZ$800 (across 3 year tenure) book and thesis allowance
NZ$500 one-off establishment allowance. Only to be paid to those students who are travelling to NZ specifically to take up the NZIDRS. No student already located in NZ is eligible to receive this amount.
Additional funds are not available to support accompanying dependants.

Evidence of available supervision
You need to show evidence that academic supervision is available when you apply for this scholarship. Applicants should contact the relevant university departments to confirm the availability of appropriate supervision before submitting their applications. Please see the terms and conditions for more information.

NZIDRS application close date
The NZIDRS closes to applications on the 15th of July each year. Applications will be accepted from early April until 5pm (NZ time) on Tuesday the 15th of July 2008. Please note that NZIDRS applications received after the closing date and/or incomplete applications will not be considered by the selection panel under any circumstances.

Community Resilience To Extreme Weather Events Through Improved Local Decision Making
Research Centre for the Built and Human Environment / School of the Built Environment

Applications are invited for a PhD research studentship at the Research Institute of the Built and Human Environment, School of the Built Environment University of Salford.

This project offers an exciting opportunity to work in the 6* RAE rated research institute of the Built and Human Environment. The 3 year doctoral studentship (funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council - EPRSC) will provide a maintenance grant and cover all approved tuition fees.

The research will focus on the coping strategies of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in responding to extreme weather events. This will involve literature reviews, surveys, case studies and contributing to action research studies with SMEs to understand the characteristics of SME coping strategies, their adaptive capacities, resilience, barriers in implementing various coping measures etc., The PhD research student will be working in close collaboration with research fellows, research assistants and other PhD students from various universities. The 3-year research project has several interim and final deliverables, with critical milestone activities to be achieved in the interim. The three-year project will commence in February 2008.

Eligibility & How to Apply:

We invite applications from potential UK, EU and International students who have a 2.1 or above Bachelors Degree in any Built Environment discipline. The prospective student should have the ability to work independently as well as a member of a team and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Further, the research will involve frequent travel between Manchester and London (case study site) and the candidate should be willing to undertake frequent extensive travel to attend project meetings and for data collection (all travel costs will be reimbursed). It is desirable that the candidate have:

(i) Relevant industrial experience;
(ii) Previous experience / research in any of the areas of disaster management, extreme weather events, SME development.

The scholarship is tenable for up to four years to support work in the area of stochastic and fuzzy modelling in the management of software development projects.

Successful candidates will have an Honours (or more likely a Masters) degree in Computer Science or similar technical discipline. They will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the software development lifecycle and have an interest in software project management. Strong development skills, preferably in Java or C++, will be required.
