Department of Zoology and Entomology
Postdoc in Marine Trophic Ecology
Research funding is available (for at least 2 years starting in 2010) for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist in the field of marine ecology. Work will be based in the Zoology and Entomology Department at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa. Applicants must possess a PhD in an appropriate biological field, an excellent publication record, and a keen interest in both field and laboratory-based research. The successful applicant will hone skills in an exciting and widely applicable interdisciplinary field involving trophic marker analysis (fatty acid composition and stable isotope ratios) to study energy transfer within and among aquatic ecosystems. There is substantial flexibility with regards to the precise nature of the research, whereby focus can be aimed at connectivities involving coastal invertebrates (benthic or pelagic) from a variety of marine-associated habitats including estuaries, sandy beaches, and rocky shores.
There is access to full fellowship funding through Rhodes University, whereby applicants will need to submit a project proposal and a full CV. Details on the Rhodes fellowships are available at: http://www.ru.ac.za/research/funding/fellowships/rhodespostdocnotice
The Rhodes fellowships are renewable for up to three years and are tax free - final deadline for completed applications is July 31. A second fellowship source is also available, see http://www.leonfoundation.co.za for details. Final deadline for this alternative fellowship source is June 4.
All interested candidates, please email me your CV, contact information for 3 referees, and a letter of motivation as soon as possible to the email address below, and we can begin consultations concerning the nature of your project proposal.
